====Section 1 — Section 9 of Statutory Instruments Act, 1959 amended====<br />
The Statutory Instruments Act, 1959 (No. 52) of 1959 as amended is further amended by the repeal of section 9 and the insertion of the following:<br />
:'''"9 Penalties<br />
:(1) There may be included in a statutory instrument which contains a prohibition or requirement, a provision that a person who fails to comply with that prohibition or requirement is liable to penalties.<br />
:(2) A penalty prescribed for an offence by virtue of this section, shall be not more than a fine of one hundred and fifty penalty units or imprisonment for a term of one year or both and in the case of a continuing offence, an additional penalty of not more than five penalty units may be prescribed by the instrument for each day on which the offence continues.<br />
